Osteopathy for sports-related injuries is a great way to get you back to what you love doing and make sure the injury is not only fixed but is balanced back within the body’s natural movement. As we have a holistic approach, we don’t just look at the site of injury (knee for example), but also look at what other influences there might be on that particular body part (for example ankle/foot and hip alignment).
From weekend warriors to high performing athletes, we have a range of tools and management plans to help. We use an evidence-based approach to rehabilitation, and to make sure our patients not only get fixed but also stay that way with expert advice and guidance.
Here are a few common sport injury conditions we see at the clinic:
- ACL Sprains
- Meniscus tears
- Achilles strain/ tear
- Tendon strain leading into tendinopathy
- Shin Splints/compartment syndrome
- Jumpers knee (adolescents mostly)
- Rotator cuff tears/complications
- Labrum complications (shoulder)
- Rib fractures/Sprains
- Whiplash
- Tennis elbow/golfer’s elbow
- Hamstring Strain
- Groin Strain
- Plantar fasciitis
We use up-to-date rehab protocols and systems such as Physitrack, so rehab becomes easier to implement and fun to do. With pictures, descriptions, and videos of each stretch/strength/rehab exercise given, it’s a great tool to return to if you need help and guidance.
Osteopaths in New Zealand are ACC registered practitioners. This means they can assess and claim an injury under ACC and provide you with an ACC code for your injury. This also means that Osteopaths can use ACC to help subsidize your treatment if you do have an injury. Best to talk with your Osteopath about what comes under an ‘accident’ and what doesn’t.
